Dutch publicist and FOIA legal expert Roger Vleugels has issued an updated overview of all freedom of information (FOI) laws around the world. The overview (in English) can be freely downloaded in PDF.

Currently 88 nations have FOI legislation, 7 more than at the time of the previous edition. Most of those new countries are in Africa, while several European nations have no freedom of information act. Spain is currently creating such a law.

About a dozen nations have FOIA's under consideration, which might bring the total number of nations with a FOI law up to 100 in 2 years time.

The next edition will be published in September 2012.
