Vienna City Council Blocks Transport Data Release
Vienna, 17 September 2010
Public transport data sets are always high on the wish list of PSI re-users, as it is data that has immediate value to people in their regular environment. The Vienna Green party had proposed to release the Wiener Linien (Vienna Public Transport) data for free and unrestricted re-use through an API.
The Vienna public transport organization does make their own application available to check public transport schedules. Earlier they intervened to stop a developer who made an application using their data available.
The Vienna city council now has voted against the release of the data.
