Victoria Releases Gov 2.0 Action Plan

In the Victoria Gov 2.0 Action Plan four areas for action are defined, and fourteen actions are named.

The focus areas are:

  1. Driving adoption in Victoria Public Services (Leadership)
  2. Engaging communities and citizens (Participation)
  3. Opening up government (Transparency)
  4. Building capacity (Performance)

Opening up government is entirely focussed on opening up data and PSI, and putting it to use, and proposes three specific activities:

  • VPS Hack, an event bringing together designers, developers and people with ideas to build applications based on open public data.
  • An information management framework to help set standards and measures for sharing data.
  • And the roll-out of a Victoria data catalogue.

The latter has been available in beta already, as it was the launching pad for an open data apps competition earlier this year called 'App My State', but will now get a larger and permanent role as Victoria's official data catalogue.
