UK Government responds on Power of information

The UK Cabinet Office has published the Governments response to The Power of Information report.

In responding to the 15 recommendations the UK Governments has

  • 10 of the recommendations have been accepted without qualification.

  • 2 of the recommendations have been accepted with a qualification.

  • Deferred 3 making a decision on 3 recommendations until an economic study has been completed.

The Cabinet Office press release CAB/059/07 quotes the Cabinet Office Minister Hilary Armstrong as saying:

“The Government would:

  • engage in partnership with user–led online communities, not attempt to replicate them;

  • ensure that it fully understands and responds appropriately to changes in the information market; and

  • advise civil servants on how best to participate in new media to correct mis–information or better inform citizens on day–to–day issues.”
