Two French Data Catalogues This Fall
Two data catalogues in parallel will be launched this fall.
Data PublicaOne is the deliverable for the publicly funded Data-Publica Project. Project lead Francois Bancilhon has told Regards Citoyens that the Data-Publica project will be a data repository, and is likely to include also non-open data. A first demo is to be expected on September 16th.
The Data Publica project is described as:
The goal of Data Publica is to stimulate the development of Internet and mobile applications by simplifying the access of developers to public and private data and metadata. The project is developing a market place where companies and public organizations can publish their metadata and access to the data and the license under which they make it available, and application developers can access the metadata to imagine the applications they can build and access the data to run their application. The market place will also provide standard licenses to publish data and tools to extract and present datasets.
French CKAN / Regards CitoyensAnother is the French citizen data repository, currently being created by Regards Citoyens. This data catalogue will be based on CKAN, the engine behind several open data catalogues around the EU, most notably data.gov.uk. This will also be published this fall. Currently it is being discussed if the launch will be accompanied by a 'data hunt' nearer to the Open Government Data Camp in London, and ending with an Open Data Development Weekend at the start of December (a year after the open data camp in Paris) to complete the hunt and create applications re-using that data.
