Sweden Embraces IATI Standard
The Swedish government has embraced the IATI standard for reporting financial data on international aid efforts.
The IATI (International Aid Transparency Initiative) standard aims to create transparency in the entire sector of international aid, from donor countries to NGO's and receiving countries. The standard was launched early 2011, and several countries (ao UK, Spain, Netherlands, Finland and now Sweden) and international institutions (UN, World Bank) have meanwhile published their data in line with this standard.
In April the Swedish government already launched the OpenAid.se portal, providing data on the Swedish aid efforts, as a beta project. Then the data published was mostly historical and not yet formatted in the IATI standard. With this next step Sweden is making its already published data on international aid more useful and more easily re-usable.
