San Francisco Passes Open Data Law
San Francisco, 9 November 2010,
In an unanimous vote the San Francisco Board of Overseers has passed a law on Open Data. Following the examples of Canadian cities such as Vancouver, and the US city of Portland, this is an amendment to the city's administrative code establishing a city policy to release city datasets through datasf.org. It requires all city departments, boards, commissions and agencies to publish data sets in accordance with the standards set by the Committee on IT. This Committee, and that's a difference with e.g. Portland, will also address (generic) licensing.
Another milestone for local open government data.
