PSI: Re-use of cultural material

The European Commission (EC) Information Society Directorate has published an announcement titled: Ex-ante advertising for a negotiated procedure for a service contract of a value below or equal to 60.000€. INFSO.E4 – A study: " PSI: Re-use of cultural material ".

The announcement states:

“Ex-ante advertising for the negotiated procedure for a service contract of a value below or equal to 60.000€ for the study "PSI: Re-use of cultural material". The purpose of this contract is to collect relevant information on (1) the importance of re-use in terms of revenues for cultural institutions and (2) on trends in the development of re-use market for cultural material. Deadline for submission of offers is 13 August 2010.

The task description states:

"Public Sector Information (PSI): Re-use of cultural material"

The contractor will carry out the following tasks:

a. To identify and calculate the revenues generated by 25 big cultural institutions (i.e. holding the most famous collections), adequately representing the EU Member States, in (or parts of) 2009 and 2005 for the re-use of their collections, in absolute figures and in relation to their total budget, and to highlight the main re-users.

b. To identify and calculate the revenues received by 25 small cultural institutions (i.e. holding less renowned collections), adequately representing the EU Member States, in (or parts of) 2009 and 2005 for the re-use of their collections, in absolute figures and in relation to their total budget, and to highlight the main re-users.

c. To identify and present case studies of (1) most popular as well as (2) novel and emerging types of re-uses of cultural material, i.e. works, metadata or any other relevant material, by institutions and by third parties.

d. To identify appropriate indicators in order to analyze the current practices for re-use of cultural collections held by European cultural institutions and assess their conformity with the principles for re-use as established in the Public Sector Information (PSI) Directive.”
