PSI Internship opportunity

Kew: 21 August 2009

The National Archives (TNA) have announced a new internship opportunity with OPSI. The announcement states:

A three-month internship opportunity for ESRC-funded doctoral students is now available, to work with the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI).

The purpose of the internship is to develop an online project - openpsi.org - with the University of Southampton as part of a JISC Rapid Innovation grant. Deadline for applications is 30 September 2009.

The project attempts to bridge the gap between the research community, data mashers and government information publishers. It also seeks to throw light on the question of the potential research value of public sector information.

Open PSI

Open PSI is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the UK government, lead by the National Archive, to trial a new form of community provisioned information service that:

  1. uses Semantic Web standards to provide an integration point for UK governmental sourced information, and
  2. creates an interaction space between the governmental information publishers, the research community who need access to governmental information and the new form of information intermediaries, the mashup creators

JISC funding will provide delta funding to lever significant investments being made by the public sector, ongoing research programmes, and individuals in both information and technology assets, to create a baseline community provisioned information service and to engage the community to sustain it.
