Aerial photos are available in Google Maps and other services, but what when you want to acquire an aerial photo yourself from a public body. MICUS has done a survey and comes with a cost-comparison. Every surveying or cadastral body in the EU has its own ordering and payment procedure, and also conditions and terms of service vary widely. In Germany where responsibility for geodata lies with both federal states as well as cities, it can vary from city to city even.
Looking at national levels, the prices to obtain photos from public bodies varies widely, from 4 Euro in Estonia (per 10km2) to 262 Euro in Poland, with 62 Euro being the average.
With the PSI and INSPIRE Directives one can expect the access and re-use of this data will become easier over time, also as interest of EU citizens is growing.
The is the press release by MICUS. The full report can be obtained from the e-mail address mentioned in the press release.
