Norwegian Data License Feedback Request

Oslo, 22 March 2011

(by Ton Zijlstra)

Norway has published a draft of the Norwegian public data license "Norsk lisens for offentlige data (NLOD)", and is looking for feedback. The current draft license moves away from the original idea last August to have a 'buffet' of license options, much like the Creative Commons licenses. In stead it opts for a solution that is as straightforward as possible. The draft license is compatible with existing international license frameworks such as Creative Commons, as well as the Open Data Commons.

This license governs only the use of data the public already has access to. Themes such as caching, updates, and versioning obligations should be clarified by the data owner when making data available, but is not part of the license.

The license is purely a draft. The draft will be circulated for comment (any input that will be posted as comments in the data.norge.no blog will also be included). The use of the Norwegian license will only be recommended after this consultation process is finished.

Please refer to the following postings at data.norge.no to add your feedback:

An annotated version of the license explaining the various elements and choices made

The invitation to provide feedback and general comments on the process
