London datastore announcement imminent

London: 7 January 2010

The UK Guardian newspaper has published a news article titled: 'Datastore' with hundreds of sets of data: Fund of up to £200,000 will help developers to create innovative use of 200 datasets in new free data initiative.

The article opens with the following statement:

“The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will on Thursday launch a website hosting hundreds of sets of data - including previously unreleased information - about the capital, as part of a new scheme intended to encourage people to create "mashups" of data to boost the city's transparency and accountability.

Channel 4 will also be offering up to £200,000 through its 4ip fund to help develop the most innovative uses of the data.”

The 4ip announcement titled: 4 The People refers to the Guardian news scoop! The announcement states:

“Tomorrow, at the CES Government London 2010 summit, Tom should have been revealing a new fund to tie in with the launch of the Mayor of London’s ‘London Datastore’ website. But here at 4iP we seem to have sprung a leak and tonight I’m reading the news on the Guardian’s website. Well done them for scooping us to our own announcement! The full announcement and press release will go out tomorrow but here are a few more details and some of the thinking behind this new fund.”
