LOCUS 1 year old today!

London: 25 January 2007

On the 26th January 2007 the LOCUS Association will be one year old.

To commemorate the event LOCUS in association with Dorsey & Whitney organised a seminar to consider the PSI market place following the publication of the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) market study report on the commercial use of public information (CUPI).

To develop the topic LOCUS invited three stakeholders each of whom have a role within the framework of the PSI Regulations 2005 (SI 1515) – the UK transposition of the EU Directive 2003/98/EC.

The panel of speakers included:

Carol Tullo - Director, Office of Public Sector Information

Mark Todd - Member of Parliament for South Derbyshire

Alan Griffiths - Barrister, One Essex Court

The short presentations were followed by a debate that continued on informally whilst celebrating the first anniversary with champagne and canapés.

One was left with the impression from the event that there was a genuine desire by all in attendance that included PSI stakeholders from the private, public and political sectors to work together to address the issues that were holding back the UK PSI re-use market from reaching its full potential which the OFT CUPI report conservatively estimated to be at least €1.4 billion per annum.

Seminar documentation plus references to made during the presentations.
