IGF 2011: Internet as a Catalyst for Change
Nairobi, London, 1 September 2011
The United Nations’ 6th international Internet Governance Forum (IGF) has published a paper on the themes and programme of the meeting. The meeting host is Nairobi, Kenya with the event taking place from the 27 to 30 September 2011.
Continuity of discussions from one IGF meeting to the next is an important objective. The IGF6 programme paper reports the overall theme to be: “Internet as a catalyst for change: access, development, freedoms and innovation.”
The 2011 meeting agenda covers the following key themes.
- IG4D / Internet governance for development (IG4D)
- Emerging Issues
- Managing critical Internet resources
- Security, openness and privacy
- Access and diversity
- Taking stock and the way forward
Each of the key themes includes a range of workshops designed to explore detailed issues related to the main theme from different perspectives. The workshops and best practice forums will be preparing a background paper and report on these events.
Workshop 123 (Public Sector Information online: towards a Global policy framework) focused on global policy on the re-use of government data is one of these workshops and a part of IGF 2011 falling under the theme of ‘Security, Openness and Privacy’. This workshop includes remote participate and all stakeholders interested in open government data policy and issues are invited to participate in person or online.
- Online Registration for the 6th Internet Governance Forum is open until the 9th September 2011
- Remote participation in Workshop 123 and all 6th IGF meeting sessions is possible and follows on from the success of remote participation at the previous 5th IGF meeting.
