Hong Kong & PSI re-use
The re-use of public sector information was on the agenda of the 17th meeting of the Hong Kong Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee that was held on the 10 December 2009. Paper 11/2009 (8 pages) titled: Public Sector Information for Access and Re-use sought the views of the Members of the Advisory Committee.
The paper states at paragraphs 6 and 7:
“Increasing the value that the community realizes from the use of PSI
6. There are many ways in which the community can derive value from the use of PSI. Examples include:
(a) Using transport and weather information to plan leisure activities;
(b) Combining public sector econometric and demographic data with other information for business planning or investment appraisal;
(c) Using information about regulated or licensed entities to decide with whom to do business; and
(d) Using archive information for personal or academic research.
7. The wider the dissemination of PSI, and the more flexibility there is in the way it is used, the greater the extent to which these and similar benefits can be realized. Moreover, wider dissemination of PSI will result in the general benefit of making markets work more efficiently, by ensuring that market participants are better informed.”
