The Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia has published a press release on the book Access to Public Sector Information: Law, Technology & Policy that was launched in Brisbane on Monday 5th July 2010. Photographs from the launch event have also been published.
The QUT press release states:
“Book tells all about open access to public sector information
A book that outlines the law, technology and policy that underpins the re-use of digitally available public sector information is being launched at the Queensland State Library today.
The two-volume book, Access to Public Sector Information: Law, Technology & Policy, is edited by open access legal expert Professor Brian Fitzgerald from Queensland University of Technology's Faculty of Law.
It contains explanations and analysis of the global shift in the way public sector information is managed and is an invaluable resource. "We have seen an increasing demand for better access to and re-use of public sector information rising out of the growing capacity of networked digital information technologies to process and visualize large amounts of information in an efficient and user-driven way," Professor Fitzgerald said.
"The book's collection of papers, reports and submission on the topic by leading authors provides anyone whose job it is to map out and implement information policy with the reference material and practical guidance they need to complete the task."
The book is published by University of Sydney Press. It will be launched by a panel of speakers including Senator Kate Lundy, communications technology minister Robert Schwarten; National Innovation System chair Dr Terry Cutler and chair of the Federal Government's 2.0 Taskforce Dr Nicholas Gruen at 2.45pm today (July 5) in The Edge at the State Library of Queensland.
Volume one of Access to Public Sector Information: Law, Technology & Policy draws together papers by policymakers, academics and practitioners, while volume two contains a selection of the key reports and submissions that have been published over the last few years. For more information.”
