Global Open Data Workshop: Democratic, Social and Economic Potentials

Dr. Pauline Pollard has published a blog post about Workshop 120: ‘Public sector information online: democratic, social and economic potentials’.

The Workshop 120 is taking place on the 17th September 2010, Vilnius Lithuania, as part of the 5th Internet Governance Forum, which has the theme of ‘Developing the Future Together’.

Participation in Workshop 120 is possible remotely, if one can’t participate in person. Workshop 120 is organised by Project Aporta and the ePSIplatform with the support of an international comprised group of organisations and panel members.

In her role as remote moderator for Workshop 120, Pauline provides practical information about how remote participants can follow the Workshop and take part in the discussions with others from around the globe. She also shares her reflections on why the issue of access to and re-use of PSI is a global one.

The comments already posted on the blog reflects the wealth of ideas and perspectives which will be shared during Workshop 120 by persons from the private and public sectors, web developers, citizens, open data activists and researchers. Dr. Pauline Pollard is a European Public Sector Information Platform Analyst. Her PhD ‘Co-ordinating the Sharing of Spatial Data in the UK’ follows the history of the development of the UK Address datasets and provides an institutional analysis for the reasons the dataset is locked out of open access by barriers of cost recovery. She previously worked as a Senior Lecturer for the University of the West of England in the field of Information Systems. Prior to this she worked as a business analyst in local government. She has also contributed to the specialist ICT group within the European Group of Pubic Administration.
