Ghent Opens Data

The Belgian city Ghent has opened a data portal data.gent.be as part of its municipal website on 17 February. The launch of the portal is part of the list of actions connected to the 'Smart Cities' program Ghent is part of. Currently the portal holds some 75 datasets, mostly statistics and geo-data. It is unclear from the data portal, what type of license is attached to the various data sets that are now available.

The city government aims to take a leading role in opening up government data in Belgium.

On 24 March during the Apps for Ghent 2 (a reprise of a similar event in the spring of last year), developers and coders will have opportunity to explore and work with the data, to create applications.
