GFII Announces Seminar Series: Digital Economy – Sharing New Value

The Groupement Français de l’Industrie de l’Information (GFII) (French Association of Electronic Information Industry) has announced a new seminar series on the ‘Digital Economy and New Value’.

The GFII announcement states (approximate English translation) (French text online):

“For many years, GFII has been promoting the re-use of public sector information. This information is a pool to create unique products or value-added services and develop new economic activities. The use of material from government presents real challenges for the development of the digital economy and the knowledge economy.

A new global dynamic is running around Open Data movements, projects and data.gov type applications and Apps for Democracy. At a time when many initiatives are developing in different countries under different models, GFII wishes to deepen the economic aspect of this subject. After a series of sectoral workshops (dedicated to information on companies, patent information ...), GFII begins from this day, a new series of seminars on the theme: "Digital Economy: the new division value.

Economists, experts and practitioners try to answer the following questions:

  • What is the real potential of the reuse of public information?
  • What is the best economic model for the provision of such data? What pricing method set up? Should we define rules based on 'creators, the data or applications?
  • Does the availability of data fit into the missions of the state?
  • What are the means of state departments, public organisations or communities to meet the expectations of economic actors and citizens?
