Finnish Newspaper Has Open Data Guidelines

Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat has provided editorial guidelines to its journalists on how to use open government data in their reporting activities.

In an article in the English language section of the newspaper's website, Esa Mäkinen explains:
"Helsingin Sanomat has issued its journalists with guidelines on the use of open data in day-to-day editorial work. The objective of the instructions is to bring open data more prominently into the work of the various desks on the paper. Open data in this context can for instance be a database or dataset published by some public body or authority that is made available on the Net for anyone to use - rather than merely to be read."

Part of the 10 point guide line are elements like making sure the use of data is adding value, and releasing back ground material to their own stories as open data as well.
