European Address Forum Officially Launched

Brussels: 15 June 2010

The European Address Forum (EAF) was officially launched in front of over 100 people at the end of the final conference and public event of the European Address Infrastructure (EURADIN) project Conference Addressing the Future that was held at the Committee of the Regions, Brussels on the 15 June 2010. The European Commission Information Society Directorate and the European Public Sector Information Platform were present at both the Conference and the official launch and celebration of the European Address Forum and as such demonstrates the importance of Address Information within the overall context of the Digital Agenda 2020 and in particular the re-use of public sector information.

On the conclusion of the Conference delegates celebrated the launch and offered two toasts one to the success of the EURADIN Project and one to the European Address Forum and its future. The celebration took place with the European Address Forum video playing on the electronic screens that in the room.

The official launch of the European Address Forum brings to life a plan that was originally formulated over five years ago to establish a European Address Forum whereby all stakeholders that have a close interest in Address Registers and their use could come together to exchange knowledge, share good practices on the Address information and provide mutual support.

The venue for the conference and the launch of the European Address Forum – the Committee of the Regions was an apt reminder (if one was needed) that the Address Information value chain has its source within Local Government all across Europe.

The European Address Forum will be supported in the first year by the Territorial Information unit of the Government of Navarra, Spain that will provide the EAF Secretariat. A shadow Management Committee was appointed at the launch and a call for further nominations was made with a deadline to response by set as Friday 25th June 2010.
