Europe’s ICT 2010 Conference: Digitally Driven

Europe’s biennial ICT Conference is taking place this year in Brussels from the 27th to 29th September 2010. 'ICT 2010: Digitally Driven' is organised by the European Commission and hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the European Union.
ICT 2010 will focus on policy priorities such as Europe's Digital Agenda and the 2011-2012 financial programme (€2.8 billion) of the European Union for funding research and innovation in ICT. The invitation says: "Join us at ICT 2010 to discover latest research trends in information and communication technologies, meet potential research and business partners ... "
The news release published by the Belgian EU Presidency describes the event.
“This major event in the ICT sector will bring together 5000 participants from more than 80 countries. The programme will include: an exhibition, conferences and workshops. This conference is intended for professionals from the private and public sectors and academic circles.
This conference will focus on:
- the latest trends in information and communication technology;
- European priorities for financing digital research in 2011-2012 to the tune of 2.8 billion Euros;
- discussions with researchers and entrepreneurs during multiple networking sessions;
- an exhibition covering a floor space of more than 5000 m² on advanced digital research in Europe.
Participants will also discuss ICTs for sustainable development and the role of regions in their development.”

Governmental Linked Data Networking Session
Networking sessions being held during the ICT 2010 Conference include one on: Governmental Linked Data, 28th September 2010 (11:00-12:30). The organisers describe the session and invite you to participate.
- Co-ordinator: Sören AUER (Universität Leipzig, AKSW, Institute for Computer Science, Germany)
- This networking session will discuss how public access to government data – crucial for an open and transparent society – can be improved.
- This session has been proposed by IT professionals, scientists and government representatives organised – under the auspices of the Open Knowledge Foundation – as the Working Group on EU Open Data.
- It aims to establish a forum for networking and exchanging ideas with regard to publishing and linking governmental data, identifying technological developments and showcasing successful cases of linked governmental data. Developments in linked data could help further integrate information published by regional, national and European public administrations.
- The session is thematically relevant to a number of pillars within the Framework Programme as well as the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme.
