EURADIN: 1 Year old!

The European Union eContent funded project EURADIN (EURopean ADdresses INfrastructure) has published the first annual report for the period 1 June 2008 through to 31 May 2009 – the first twelve months of the 24 month funded period. The EURADIN project has the objective of constituting a Best Practice Network in order to promote the European Address harmonization regarding the definition, registration and access to the European Address Data.

EURADIN has 30 partners from 16 European Member States that include: Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The partners represent address data providers, users and re-users from the public sector, private sector, research sector and representative associations.

During the first year of EURADIN achievements and activities have included amongst others:

  • 34 Address Systems assessed
  • Undertaken an Address System survey that attracted 108 responses from 20 countries
  • Organised and or participated in 12 conferences and workshops that have been attended by 500+ stakeholders that have an interest in Address systems and Address System interoperability.
  • Held EURADIN technical workshops in Torino, London, Bonn, Madrid, Sundvollen, and Veldhoven
  • Published a newsletter
  • Launched the EURADIN web site that has attracted 1500 unique visitors in the first year.
  • Provided significant input in the form of address related data specifications, metadata rules to the INSPIRE data and metadata specification working groups
  • Commenced the planning and launch of the European Address Forum (First proposed by the GINIE Project 2001 to 2003)

Page 20 of the report states:

“Since the beginning e-PSIplus project has been supporting EURADIN in the re-use of Public sector information, by disseminating EURADIN activities and by participating in e-mail discussions or meetings. Next year a more active participation in PSI activities will be carried out.”

EURADIN plans to hold a major conference that will be held in Brussels in the Spring/Summer 2010 timeframe that will present the final results of the Project.

A report on the EURADIN Madrid meeting that reviewed the first year of the project has been published on the 8 June 2009 by one of the EURADIN partners Tracasa from Spain. The article titled: "Bandera verde" para el Proyecto EURADIN en el que participa Tracasa ("Green Flag" for the project in which EURADIN Tracasa) states that the European Commission EURADIN Project Officer and the two external experts gave the project clearance to proceed into the second year.
