Dutch Culture Linked Open Data Event Announced

Haarlem, 08 February 2011,

Culture and cultural heritage is one of the domains that are newly emerging into the open (government) data and re-use discussion. Government and publicly funded institutions maintain large archives and databases on everything that defines our cultural heritage, even though they currently fall outside the scope of what is deemed PSI. At the same time many cultural institutions see beneficial effects in making their material as widely available as possible, thus exposing and involving more citizens to and in it. This makes for an exciting field of discussion.

In this light it is encouraging to see local events being organized around this theme, similar to the local events we've seen emerging from the open data movement such as hack days and app building 'camps'.

One such local event is the Dutch Culture Linked Open Data Event, that has been announced for 13 May 2011 in Haarlem, Netherlands. The programme is still unknown, but the organizing partners are Digital Heritage Netherlands, Haarlem's library, library University of Amsterdam, and the Theatre Institute Netherlands.
