Data.gov In a Box

The USA has released the code of their data management module as open source, in a joint effort with the government of India, to create “Data.gov-in-a-Box”. In a next step the government of India will release the source code for the website to go with the data module. This as part of the Open Government Partnership program.

Steven VanRoekel, the federal CIO in the USA, writes about this step on the WhiteHouse.gov weblog:

"The module -- paired with the software for the Open Government Platform website being developed by India -- will enable governments around the world to launch their own open government sites and increase transparency and accountability. In the meantime, the U.S.-India team will continue to improve and integrate the modules of the Open Government Platform for the planned launch early next year."

The code is available from GitHub, where it can be downloaded.
