Danes consider exploiting PSI!

Copenhagen: 24 June 2009

The presentations and discussion summaries from the workshop on opening up public sector informationorganised by the IT and Telecomm of the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation have been published. The workshop took place on the 24th June 2009 at which 45 people attended from both the private and public sectors. The workshop was opened by four presentations before moving onto open discussion on three specific topics. The presentations and summaries of the discussions have been published under the heading: Masser af input fra workshoppen 'Offentlige data i spil' den 24. juni 2009

The three open discussion topics at the workshop were:

  • How can the public sector benefit from opening up public sector information? (Hvordan kan offentlige myndigheder få noget ud af Offentlige data i spil -initiativet?)
  • What can the private sector do with public sector information? (Hvad kan virksomheder/iværksættere/borgere egentlig bruge offentlige data til?)
  • How should privacy be managed when opening up public sector information? (Hvad er en effektiv og brugbar privacy-håndtering?)

A number of Danish blogs have reflected on the meeting which include the following:

Release of public data free! (Slip de offentlige data fri!)

The blog topic poses the question that it has been four years since Denmark transposed the European Union Directive 2003/98/EC (direktiv 2003/98/EC Danish Law lov nr. 596 af 24/6-2005) so why has there not been an uptake in the re-use of public sector information in Denmark? Is it due to the missing asset lists on public sector information holders data and information holdings?

Government says so
