CC and Government
The LINUX 2010 Conference held in Wellington, New Zealand included a mini conference titled Open and the Public Sector. The mini conference considered public sector information presentations from Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
The mini conference abstract states:
“Free software, open data, and open APIs are already changing government: lowering costs, exposing waste, increasing transparency, and permitting citizens to use and extend government information and services.
Though already making a difference, adoption is by no means as widespread as would make sense. While the benefits seem obvious to proponents, public sector IT managers often see considerable obstacles to adoption of free software, open data and practices.”
The keynote presentations included one delivered remotely from the UK by Andrew Stott on Digital Engagement.
During the afternoon of the mini conference a panel discussion considered presentations on:
Draft NZ Government Open Access and Licensing framework (NZGOAL), presented by Keitha Booth, State Services Commission, New Zealand ()
Creative Commons, open access, open licensing and NZGOAL, presented by Professor Anne Fitzgerald, QUT Law Faculty, Brisbane, Australia. ()
