Bavaria Opens Data Portal
The German State of Bavaria has launched a data portal today. With some 125 data sets from various policy areas, the Bavarian government delivers on their plan for such a portal that was announced last summer. Licenses and re-use conditions are specified on the level of individual data sets, with CC BY 3.0 being common.
"Open Data makes government more transparent and create a high potential for innovation. Please use our data, to inform yourself, or to develop new applications and services" said Franz Josef Pschierer, the Bavarian CIO.
With this launch additional momentum is created on the local and regional level in Germany. On the national level steps towards more open data have been more guarded. The timing of the release makes the data a possible resource for the participants in the Apps4Germany competition.
