Apps for Amsterdam Contest About to Start
Amsterdam, 8 February 2011
Next week will see the start of the Apps for Amsterdam competition. It is an initiative to make as much Amsterdam government data as possible available for re-use, while at the same time show what can be done with that data and demonstrate the possibilities. The city of Amsterdam will release data for the competition.
Developers are invited to send in their applications that use at least one source of available information of the local government in Amsterdam, or other government source as long as the data is about Amsterdam.
On 16 February the kick-off of the Apps for Amsterdam competition takes place. On March 12th a special 'Hack de Overheid' edition will take place to stimulate the development of Apps. And later this spring the winners will be announced. Participants can win prizes to further develop their applications and make them suitable for a large(r) audience.
The Apps for Amsterdam Contest is a participation between the Municipality of Amsterdam, Waag Society and Hack De Overheid (Hack the Government). Waag Society is a foundation that initiates projects on the cross roads of technology, society and art. Hack de Overheid regularly organizes events where civil servants and coders meet for day-long hacking sessions and discussion to promote the availability and re-use of government data as open data.
