AppCamp Kosova: Improving the national image with apps

Date of the event:
2012-11-05

On 2-4 November the AppCamp Kosovo took place where over 20 teams and over 150 participants built applications to help improve the international image of Kosovo.

In four categories, Tourism and Economy, News and Information, Culture Heritage and Tradition, and Games and Trivia, a 3000 Euro prize was awarded to the best application in the category. All four winners are also invited to the Mobile World Congress in 2013 in Barcelona. The mobile apps for either Android or iOS were not based on PSI per se, but the availability of public data and information was central to a number of them. More important is that an active and motivated developer community, will help create a viable ecosystem for open government data as well.

The event was supported by the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with partners such as the British Council, IPKO Foundation, and the Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.

Winners of the Appcamp were:
Ali Pasha of Gucia, a game based on Kosovo mythology
Skenderman, combining historical information and entertainment
ZAG, an application for tourists, including providing additional information on points of interest and augmented reality features
Braka, an application for fashion conscious shoppers in Pristina.
