With Hurricane Irene passing over the eastern part of the USA this weekend, it is important for people to be able to track information quickly as well as having that information presented in a useful and understandable way.

Publicly available data, from both government and private sources, can be used for this. Most of those sources are of course distributed, but bringing them together is easy when it's available and reusable as open data, and when it can be combined using mapping tools such as for instance...

The city of New York has presented a Road Map for the Digital City. The city will work towards an open government framework that includes APIs to data sets the city holds, and changes in the current website and the way information is presented. The topics open government and open government data are part of a wider set of actions concerning the use of ICT and digital media.
